Zithromax (azithromycin) is a potent antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacteria-induced infections and other conditions, including sexually transmitted diseases, middle ear infection, skin infections, respiratory infections, tonsillitis, pneumonia and strep throat. Do not take this drug if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients. If you are not sure whether you can be allergic to the drugs you are currently taking talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Unless otherwise recommended by your doctor, take Zithromax one hour before or two hours after having a meal. You need to warn your doctor of the fact of having liver or kidney disease, heart rhythm disorder, history of Long QT syndrome.
This drug is FDA pregnancy category B – it is not expected to cause harm to the health of an unborn baby. However, this drug has been reported to pass into breast milk affecting the health of the nursing infant. Do not start taking this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your skin can become more sensitive to sun light. Try not to stay outside exposed to the sunlight unless you are wearing protective clothing and apply some sun screen. Zithromax side effects include sleep problems, skin rash, itching, mild nausea, vomiting, nervousness, problems with hearing, ringing in the ears, decreased sense of smell or taste, vaginal discharge.
